Hello Jake, what are you thinking right now?
Coffee, the news and morning calls are usually on the mind up until midday ☕
How did you end up at Tailify and why Influencer marketing?
I’ve always found social media & the way people consume it fascinating, the way we speak to one another and share news has advanced rapidly since social took off, for the good and the bad. Just look at the impact a new platform like TikTok has had on the world, I’ve not actually downloaded TikTok personally (no one wants to see me attempt a dance challenge, I’ll leave that to Friday nights out in a bar) but I still manage to see TikTok videos every single day and know what trend is running.
I watched a Tailify seminar and it clicked that the vision the company has for the channel is the future, a month later I was with Tailify, flash forward another month, you can see me speaking at one of our seminars in my picture. There’s something special about a job role where you’re immersed in what you do every day, it keeps you invested.
What do you believe in today that you didn’t believe in before you started at Tailify?
The sheer power of drive and ambition, especially with a younger team and company, I’ve worked at complex corporations before where movement is difficult, the milestones that I’ve made in a short space of time, as well as the company itself, never fail to amaze me.
What is your superpower?
Bending time, I seem to be able to jump on the northern line 5 mins before I need to be somewhere and still manage to make it to where I need to be on time. (though maybe this is a genuine power I believe I have in my own head that the clocks disagree with).
What does the word “Influence” mean to you?
Influence is sitting at midnight ordering 25% off fruit tea that you’ve seen in a video and not stopping to ask yourself why (been here too many times, I don’t like tea).
We’re Influenced in all areas of life, culture, family, relationships, books, advertising, we’re constantly Influenced and we’re a product of our surroundings.
What’s the difference between influence and influencer?
I’ve always believed an Influencer is an influential character in life, but being Influenced is an act.
Because of advertising, we often label ‘Influencers’ as people on social media who get paid to post content, but stripping it back to what it really is, an Influencer is anyone with a voice that is heard, could be a politician, a rapper, a friend.
Describe the ‘Typical Talifyer’
Driven, passionate, curious, a challenger.
What is your motto in life?
'Get the money, dollar dollar bill y’all’ - Wu Tang Clan
Where do you go/what do you do when you need to find new inspiration?
Usually, for a wander around London with my headphones in, I do this pretty frequently to get headspace and you can never get tired of a wander around a busy city, usually ends with me in a pub, I’m certain one day it’ll be proven your best thoughts/work come after a pint.
What does influencer marketing, data and psychology have in common?
You need informed data and backing research to make decisions, I’ve come from a research background so I’ll always champion data first. Our approach is to mix psychology & data with creativity and culture, and I truly believe we’re one of the only in the market doing this. If you can nail a mix of all of these elements, you’re coming away with a brilliant ad campaign and you’ve proved the value of the investment down to a T.
Last question, If you were an influencer - what type of influencer would you be and why?
A foodie account, not that I need any additional excuses to be eating out. Catch me on my Mukbang channel in 10 years time!
Definitely a meme account on the side, never get tired of scrolling through memes.
