Spotlight of the week - Esme Rice!

Hello Esme, what are you thinking right now?

Right now it is very hot in the UK, so I am thinking about making myself an ice caramel latte before my 10 am kick-off meeting with the team. Best way to kick off the day!

What is your superpower?

I was asked this during my Tailify interview and my response was “Getting sh*t done”. I am a big do-er and like to blast through a to-do list as efficiently as possible if we are thinking about a project or next content plan, I really like to get started and set out the plan of action for achieving our goals. Then you’re ready to go ahead and get the job done well.

What do you believe in today that you didn’t believe in before you started at Tailify?

Before I joined Tailify I worked quite independently, speeding through things and doing things on my own. Tailify has taught me the power of groups, one mind cannot be smarter than a group of minds so it’s really important to take a step back and discuss plans and ideas with your teams. Conferring with people across the company has really helped grow our marketing strategy so that it works for everyone.

What does the word “Influence” mean to you?

The power to change the world and those around you.

Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?

I am lucky to have had many people influence my life and change my path. I cannot pinpoint it to just one person, as everyone who’s come into my life has changed it in some way. My parents gave me a strong work ethic and supported me, my university tutors who allowed me into Durham even though I didn’t get the grades, the event organisers who gave me a student ticket to their event so I could convince one of their keynote speakers to give me a job, all my housemates, colleagues, friends and family have changed my life in a considerable way. Not every experience has been positive, but they have each shaped and changed me into who I am now.

What’s the difference between influence and influencer?

An influencer is someone who understands the power of influence and is able to wield this power effectively. We hope to shape the world so that this power is used for good.

Describe the ‘Typical Talifyer’

The typical Tailifyer, to me, is not one person or set of values. The essence of Tailify is that it brings together such a range of people and experiences that complement and challenge one another to be better. The typical Tailifyer is someone who is open to this and welcomes it with open arms.

What is your motto in life?

I wouldn’t say that I have a motto in life, to live by just one saying would be difficult when life is changing so much all the time. I rather find other people’s stories inspirational and use those to inspire my own actions.

Where do you go/what do you do when you need to find new inspiration?

I love running, I find it quite difficult to clear my head so often running is one of my favourite ways to find some clarity. I’ve been off recently with an injury but I cannot wait to get back to it.

What does influencer marketing, data and psychology have in common?

Everything. Influencer marketing is only as good as our understanding of data, which is turned into information using the context of psychology. By understanding our behaviours, motivations and reasoning, we are able to understand the results of the data and what impact we are having on the world. Without understanding both of these elements, you will never understand how you are influencing the world and therefore how to most effectively impact your consumers.

What is your favourite thing about working with marketing?

To be honest, I’ve never known anything else. I knew I wanted to be in marketing from around 13 years old, so for me being in marketing is so natural and comfortable. I love being able to work out how people think and how the world is a network that collides together through millions of impressions that shape every step, every action and every thought we have.

Last question, If you were an influencer - what type of influencer would you be and why?

I don’t think I’d make a very good influencer as myself, however, at the moment my mission is to make Tailify an influencer in its own right as a brand. Luckily I’ve got an amazing team around me to help make this happen.
