Spotlight of the week! - Amanda Tengnäs

Hello Amanda, what are you thinking about right now?

My birthday! It is a month away but I am honestly thinking about it every day. Yes, I am that person.. I normally have quite high expectations around this day but my only wish this year is to be surrounded by the people I love.

How did you end up at Tailify, and why influencer marketing?

A friend of mine invited me for lunch on her office’s rooftop back in June 2018. Somewhere in between her inspiring words about Tailify and the uprising influencer marketing industry and me staring at London’s skyline I understood this was my next call in life and my stomach got filled with butterflies. With a background in events and high-end fashion, I loved the idea of combining my passion for delivering excellent customer experience and social media marketing with my psychology interest. A month or two later, I walked into the Tailify office with a signed contract in my hand.

What do you believe in today that you didn’t believe in before you started at Tailify?

Failure is not the opposite of success; it is part of it. I was, for many years, guilty of labelling my own failures as shame. Today, I believe in reframing failures as lessons to be learned. It is easy to forget that all successful people have failed, but they did not give up after their failures.

What does the word “Influence” mean to you?

The saying goes that you are influenced by the five closest people you surround yourself with. Personally, I do believe the people we surround ourselves with influence us. However, I do not believe they are our only sources of influence. I believe there are different ways to define what influence is and I think the common denominator is trust.

We take in information from multiple sources daily, yet very rarely do these move us. Mass media holds our attention but it does not hold our trust. Therefore, it does not influence us. People whom we trust do. Influencers do. I believe it is no longer enough for brands to reach out to the community for attention. They need to do it the right way. Bring value and create emotions. Build trust.

What are you most proud of in your Tailify journey?

My own journey and personal progression. I have, since day one at Tailify, not only been supported but also encouraged and trusted to grow and develop both within my roles and as a person. I have become more strategic and confident but also grown into a better manager, colleague and human being. It is with pride and happiness that I look back at my Tailify journey so far and I am beyond excited to see what the future holds. Watch this space!

How do you keep yourself and your team motivated working from home?

I highly value quality time with my team - feedback sessions, virtual coffee catch-ups and 1o1s. Other than that, I am big on social interactions. I have, over the past couple of months, learned that distance does not need to and should not be a roadblock in bringing people together. I believe it is more important than ever to work on the company culture.

Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?

My parents. They are not only the most loving and giving people I know, but as parents of three kids and with full-time jobs they started their own business. It quickly became one of the biggest within the field in Sweden and not a single day goes by without me taking inspiration from them and their work. If I achieve half of the things they have accomplished I would consider myself proud!

Where do you go/what do you do when you need to find new inspiration?

I love to browse magazines. I know you can access it all on the internet nowadays but there is something special about holding it in your hand and the smell.

If you were an influencer - what type of influencer would you be and why?

Personally, I love reading about women’s roads to success and seeing them encouraging other women to take a step out of their comfort zone. I would be proud if I could inspire someone else in the right direction - to dream bigger, learn more or do greater.

The last question, you have been with Tailify for almost two years! What’s the biggest improvement you’ve seen since starting Tailify?

I immediately fell in love with Tailify’s values and the company culture. The biggest accomplishment is, despite the team growing with +150%, these values and the culture have remained and become stronger. I strongly believe that culture is a critical part of what keeps people motivated and what retains talented employees.
